Leslie Mann is undeniably a queen of comedy, especially within the Judd Apatow universe, having starred in everything from Freaks And Geeks to The Bubble. Despite being one of Hollywood's funniest stars, Mann has always considered herself a dramatic actress, though she thinks something a little "weird" about her makes her come across as funny, which is perhaps why she is so good at what she does. Her characters are always quite serious women, but we find Mann's unique humor in her delivery.
"It's not that I was trying to avoid anything," he protests. "I only have something to offer if I'm interested in it. I am dead to repetition. That's just not what I do, not what I'm made of. So when I have repeated, it's been rather flat. I don't get the jones; I don't get the discovery."
Fortune has been extremely kind to Brad Pitt, something he has understood since he was very young, when he recognized that his extraordinary looks conferred extraordinary advantages. "I remember being in early elementary school and realizing that things are not fair," he says. "I was well aware that I could get away with more. It kept me up at night. I talked to my mom about it. She told me that just meant I had a greater responsibility. I had tremendous guilt over the lack of fairness, although at times I could be a little Satan with it. Maybe it was those very times that would bring me to guilt."
In another scene, Debbie catches Pete playing Scrabble while sitting on the toilet. Mann doesn't have any qualms revealing that versions of that scenario really happen in her own home. "If [Judd's] in the bathroom for longer than, like, two and a half minutes, I know that he is tweeting or doing whatever he does," she tells me, rolling her eyes benignly. It feels like she's just tossed out something deeply private between them, only it isn't because, come on, we've all been there, and so how could that story end with anything but laughter
Contrary to what one may think while laughing at Leslie Mann's on-screen antics, the actress takes herself quite seriously. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she said, "I always think of myself as this dramatic actress, and then I think there's just something weird about me that makes it come across as funny."
In The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Leslie Mann's character takes Steve Carell's on a wild drunken ride which ends in her spewing vomit all over him. However, this scene, which will live on in comedy infamy, was not originally in the script. According to Judd Apatow, who wrote and directed the film, he had actually penned another ending, but Mann's take was just too good. "And Leslie said to me, 'No, I really think I need to throw up in his face,' and then she went off and made her own vomit out of strawberry yogurt and some sort of breakfast cereal," he divulged to Marie Claire. Mann was definitely onto something because that part is considered one of the most memorable in the entire movie (via Screen Rant).
